THEORETICAL STUDY OF EXCITED STATES OF ATOMIC SPECIES OF HELIUM TYPE (HELIO TIPO ATOMU KAI KURIU SUZADINTU BUSENU TEORINIS NAGRINEJIMAS),

Abstract

The atomic species He and Li(+) are studied in the configurations 1s2s and 1s3s. It is shown that if orthogonality is ensured between the wave functions of an excited state and the ground state, the energies of the singlet terms of the configurations 1s2s and 1s3s are found to be higher than the experimental energy. The two-configuration approximation, 1sns - 1s(2), is applied to the configurations 1s2s and 1s3s, and the three-configuration approximation, 1s2s - 1s(2) - 2p3p, to the configuration 1s2s. The two-configuration approximation, 1s2s - 2p3p, is applied to the triplet term of the configuration 1s2s. The energy value calculated in the multiconfiguration approximation is in good agreement with the experimental energy value. (Author)
