RESEARCH ON REFINEMENT AND INTERPRETATION OF GRAVITY ANOMALY COMPUTATION. SECTION I. PREDICTION OF THE GRAVITY ANOMALIES. SECTION II. EMPLOYMENT OF THE ELECTRONIC COMPUTERS IN THE INTERPRETATION OF THE GRAVITY ANOMALIES.

Abstract

The report is in two sections. Section One employs a statistical approach to the synthesis of the existing methods for predicting gravity anomalies and their accuracy. Some simple calculations of B.H values using Taylor's development are shown for a small area near 50 degrees North and 1 degree East. He concludes that tests executed so far prove the validity of Taylor's development in prediction calculations. However, the choice of order is very delicate and it is difficult to make such a choice a priori. Section Two discusses the use of electronic computers to apply the direct and indirect method of gravimetric interpretation. Flow charts of programs that calculate the gravity anomalies caused by mass of various forms are presented. (Author)
