TACTICAL RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM.

Abstract

Although still in the conceptual stage of development, the new tactical radio communication system described in this report is expected eventually to meet all radio communication needs of combat, combat-support, and special-purpose organizations from the brigade or unit of similar size down to and within the squad. Different versions of the system for use (a) on the ground, (b) in ground vehicles, (c) in Army aircraft, (d) as a man-packed set, and (e) by special-purpose forces will be fabricated by adding necessary ancillary equipment to interchangeable basic components. The tactical radio system will operate in the SSB, FM, and CW/burst transmission modes and be compatible with the AM mode. It will operate at frequencies between 2 and 400 megahertz, the ranges varying according to the needs of the units served. Consideration will be given to other frequencies and to all modulation possibilities. (Author)
