'E' SERIES TURBOPUMP INLET STUDIES,

Abstract

The turbopump inlet NPSH requirements dictate that the velocity profile in propellant lines for the MA-3 engine approximate that of a long straight pipe. Space limitations do not allow this configuration, therefore it was necessary to design an elbow to meet these conditions. The objective was to obtain pressure drop and velocity profile measurements for two diffuser elbow configurations using water as the flow media; To obtain velocity profile measurements around the turbopump inducer hub using water as the flow media; To obtain pressure drop and velocity profile measurements for a six inch omega joint using water as the flow media.
