TROPIC INTEGRATED ENGINEERING AND SERVICE TEST OF TANK, COLLAPSIBLE, SELF-SUPPORTING, 5000 BARREL CAPACITY.

Abstract

US Army Tropic Test Center tested one 5000 barrel collapsible self-supporting tank for storage of hydrocarbon fuels from June 1967 through January 1968 at Coco Solo Fuel Test Facility, Canal Zone. The purpose of the test was to determine how well the test item met the technical and operational requirements of the Department of the Army approved Small Development Requirements, and its suitability for use in a humid tropical environment. The tank was installed and operated on site according to the US Army Test and Evaluation Command approved test plan. Testing was terminated after seven months, when the tank was unserviceable and in danger of imminent failure because of extensive material deterioration. The tank was unsuitable for further service testing, and unsuitable for Army use. It was recommended that development of collapsible self-supporting tanks be continued. (Author)
