ESTANCIA LAYERING EFFECTS ON AIR-INDUCED GROUND MOTIONS.

Abstract

A series of plane one-dimensional finite difference calculations was conducted to estimate the effect of the complex sequence of thin layers of sedimentary rock on air-induced ground motions at the Estancia test site. It was found that the perturbations caused by the layering do not appreciably affect the one-dimensional motions that would exist in a homogeneous 'average' media. It is, therefore, expected that vertical motions in the plane of symmetry under a HEST experiment would not be appreciably affected by the complex layering at Estancia. (Author)
