MICROWAVE ACOUSTICAL LOSS MECHANISMS IN CRYSTALS.

Abstract

The results of X-band attenuation measurements over the 4 degrees K to approximately 100 degrees K temperature range are reported for MgO-doped LiNbO3 and LiTaO3 single crystals. These results indicate that the low-temperature acoustic behavior is improved by the addition of MgO to the melt. Attenuation vs temperature measurements at X band are also reported for YA1.99Ga.01G. A new experimental structure is described which will be used in pulse-echo experiments designed to further study the nonlinear effects discussed in previous reports. (Author)
