DEMONSTRATION OF A HIGH-THRUST HYBRID THRUST CHAMBER ASSEMBLY. PART II. COMPUTER MANUAL.

Abstract

This report describes the demonstration of a high-thrust hybrid thrust chamber assembly and was sponsored by AFRPL, Edwards, California. Six motor firings consisting of four single-port 18-in. -diameter and two 38-in. -diameter multiport units proved the feasibility of constructing large hybrid motors. The firings demonstrated combustion efficiency, fuel utilization, combustion stability, ballistic predictability and proved the applicability of the building-block and segmentation scaling concepts in motor development. A ballistic program was established in FORTRAN computer language which accurately predicts test data results within a 3% error. The material in this report describes the motor designs, computer program, propellant system, and the unique methods of fabrication and testing used in the program. In addition, direct comparisons of test results with predicted performance are shown and discussed along with a detailed description of the ballistic computer program. (Author)
