COMPUTER ENHANCEMENT OF VIDEO PICTURES FOR APPLICATION TO A SOLAR MAGNETOGRAPH.

Abstract

The design of solar magnetographs now in use are discussed. A new design for a sensitive, real-time instrument is proposed. A prototype of the new instrument has been built and tested using a television - computer combination with test patterns. The enhancement of signal-to-noise ratio went as square root of (n) where n is the number of TV frames used. This data has led to a new magnetograph design which has a sensitivity of 0.6 gauss while requiring 30 minutes of processing time. (Author)
