AN ANALYSIS OF SINGLE STAGE AXIAL-FLOW TURBINE PERFORMANCE USING THREE-DIMENSIONAL CALCULATING METHODS.

Abstract

The method of turbine performance prediction developed by Vavra and Eckert has been refined in this analysis to realize more of the potential of the three-dimensional calculating methods. Mach number and rotor tip clearance effects on blade outlet angles and loss coefficients have been localized rather than averaged over the blade height. An approximation for streamline curvature has been used. Performance curves were determined for two single stage axial-flow turbines. Test results were available for one of the turbines. Agreement between predicted and experimental performance values was generally within 3 per cent. (Author)
