HIGH PARASITES, OROBANCHACEAE

Abstract

Orobanchaceae undoubtedly is tied in with the Scrophulariaceae with their varied semi-parasites in a fashion which is not exactly known; this family contains only the holosaprophytic species. Orobanche includes about 100 species, almost all of them from moderate-climate Europe and Asia, 1 each from Chile, North America, and Western Australia, 1 from the Cape Country. All are root parasites with hypocotyledon nodules and with highly-developed layer shoots. The home of these plants is frequently located in dry areas (prairies and similar areas).
