AN INTERCOMPARISON OF GRARR AND TRANET DATA.

Abstract

This document represents the results of a study on orbit determination using Goddard range-rate data. The Second Orbit Improvement Program-II, developed to determine orbits from TRANET doppler data, was modified to accept the Goddard range-rate data. Station coordinates for the Goddard tracking sites at Carnarvon, Fairbanks, Rosman, Santiago, and Tananarive are determined. A check on the quality of the Goddard range-rate data and on the validity of the modified OIP-II was made by 'navigating' three data passes of the GEOS-A satellite from the Rosman station. Two sets of ephemerides, one from TRANET doppler data and the other from Goddard range-rate data, are generated for GEOS-A. Both are then compared with a Goddard supplied ephemeris determined from both Goddard range and range-rate data. An ephemeris for the OGO-2 (POGO-C) spacecraft is generated over its stabilized lifetime of ten days. This is then compared to a Goddard supplied ephemeris determined from Goddard mini-track, range and range-rate data. (Author)
