CARRIER WAVES IN TWO-COMPONENT SEMICONDUCTOR PLASMAS,

Abstract

The report deals with propagation of plane microwaves in an infinite semiconductor plasma having two types of carriers. The dispersion relations are established from Maxwell's equations and the continuity equations for each of the two types of carriers. The dispersion relations for carrier waves are solved in the special cases of an electron-hole plasma and a two-valley semiconductor. In the electron-hole plasma an almost unattenuated mode of propagation is found, while the two-valley semiconductor under certain circumstances exhibit growing waves. A stability analysis is made to investigate under which conditions the two-component semiconductor medium will give rise to instabilities. (Author)
