INTEGRATED ENGINEERING AND SERVICE TESTS OF PREFABRICATED ALUMINUM LANDING MATS.

Abstract

Test objectives were to determine suitability of each of four types of mat (XM19, XM18B, XM18C, and AM 2 welded 2-piece) to support various Army, Air Force, and Navy aircraft, on soils with a CBR as low as 4, and whether each type of mat meets requirements of the approved QMR. Phase I of test consisted of construction of an airfield and emplacement of test materiel. Phase II consisted of operation of the following aircraft from the airfield: Army OV-1 and VTOL (helicopter): Air Force F-4C, C-7A and C-130; and Navy F-4B.
