FIELD TESTING OF PROPELLANTS.

Abstract

Studies were conducted to develop field test methods for the determination of water, particulate matter and N2H4-UDMH ratio in 50/50 N2H4/UDMH fuel; for the determination of water, particulate matter, and NO in nitrogen tetroxide oxidizers; and for the determination of water, N2H4 and Al in N2H4/Al gels. The program was divided into four phases - laboratory screening studies, development of model field test kits, testing and evaluation of model field test kits and instruction and training of field personnel in test kit usage. The laboratory screening studies were directed toward a particular chemical or physical measurement which would be adaptable to field testing for the determination of quality of each propellant. The approach to the problem was to develop a 'go or no-go' type measurement designed to indicate departure from the specification of a usable propellant. (Author)
