IMMUNOFLUORESCENCE IN CLINICAL BIOLOGY,

Abstract

The technique of Coons provides a particularly ingenious method for observing immunologic phenomena at the cellular level. The principal of this new reaction is as follows: an antibody conjugated to a fluorescent substance will make all antigenic sites with which it combines visible. Thus it is possible to see the antibody fixed to its antigen, the antigen-antibody contact occurring either in vivo or in vitro. (Author)
