A PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION CONCERNING THE PROPERTIES OF HOUSE DUST ALLERGY,
Abstract
A bond, which may possibly be formed by adsorption, occurs between the antigen active fraction of house dust extracts and serum proteins. There is an indication that in addition to the aspecific bond there probably also exists a specific bond. The difference between house dust incubated with the sera of patients with house dust allergy and that of control subjects also supports this belief. In a similar manner the lesser in vivo activity of house dust sera incubated with the serum from patients having house dust allergy and the development of a blocking effect in vitro tests, lends support to this theory. The method employed in the fluorescein treatment of the house dust and in the column chromatography offers good prospects for further investigations which may be initiated by the purification problems considered in this report.
