COMPARATIVE INVESTIGATIONS ON THE DEMONSTRATION OF PASTEURELLA PSEUDOTUBERCULOSIS ANTIBODIES WITH THE INDIRECT FLUORESCENT-SEROLOGICAL METHOD AND THE WIDAL REACTION,

Abstract

Investigations are reported which have been carried out on 41 sick persons (among which seven confirmed cases of infection by Pasteurella pseudotuberculosis) and 60 healthy control persons for the purpose of comparing the reaction of Widal with the indirect fluorescence test as a proof of the existence of antibodies against Pasteurella pseudotuberculosis. The fluorescence test revealed the same specificity, against the serological types I, III and V, as the agglutination test; the titre of antibody was almost equal with both of the reactions. The fluorescence test also demonstrated incomplete antibodies. The importance of this method is seen in the fact that the results are available 2 to 3 hours after the test, and that the reaction may therefore be used for a rapid diagnosis. (Author)
