ANTHRAX STUDIES

Abstract

If rabbits are injected with virulent anthrax bacilli intravenously, these bacilli are absorbed by the cells of the reticulo-endothelial system. In the normal animal the bacilli multiply in these cells and penetrate from them, secondarily, into the blood. The cells of the reticulo-endothelial system are most severely damaged by this infection. If the animal is immune, the bacilli die in the cells. The conditions prevailing in the chicken are similar to those in the immune rabbit.
