ON THE PROSPECTS OF OBTAINING A NEW VACCINE AGAINST ANTHRAX OF AGRICULTURAL ANIMALS,

Abstract

By means of controlled culturing, an avirulent culture was obtained from the virulent strain of anthrax culture. The new culture retained the morphological and biochemical properties of the starting strain, but lost the capacity for capsule-formation and virtually ceased to form spores. The new properties of the culture are being stably preserved and transmitted by heredity. It was established in experiments on guinea pigs that the avirulent culture has immunogenic properties.
