FORMS OF RICKETTSIA PROWAZEKI INFECTION IN LICE ARTIFICIALLY INFECTED BY WEIGL'S METHOD,

Abstract

Three forms of infection of Ri prowazeki in lice exist: (1) an acute form, which can sometimes assume a form of paresis; (2) a toxic form; and (3) a chronic form. The cause for infected lice turning red is probably the toxic factor created by R. prowazeki. Individual features of lice influence the course of infection, aside from virulence of microorganisms. The development of immunity probably takes place in lice. (Author)
