SITE SELECTION TECHNIQUES.

Abstract

Results of a study to improve the efficiency of Air Force facility site selection are presented. It is shown that construction-effort evaluation can largely be automated and a development program is recommended. Principal study emphasis is evaluation of the use of automatic stereoplotters to provide terrain data for computer determination of earthwork volume. Types of aerial photographs and other sensor records are evaluated for their applicability to construction-effort parameters is discussed. A new FORTRAN computer program is described that determines earthwork volume for a facility template. The template is compared with recorded terrain data in the form of parallel profiles of terrain points; each terrain point is at a significant slope change along a profile. A system-concept development program is proposed. (Author)
