TULAREMIA IN GOMEL OBLAST AND ITS PROPHYLAXIS,

Abstract

A severe outbreak of the marshy-swamp type of tularemia occurred during the hot, dry summer of 1963 in Gomel' oblast, a region which abounds with natural foci of the disease. The outbreak was due to the migration of the water rat and Ixodes ticks, vectors of Bacterium tularense, to the populated centers, and prompted the extensive and highly effective vaccination of the people in foci areas. Further selective vaccination is urged. (Author)
