THE MOMENTS METHOD IN ELECTRON PARAMAGNETIC RESONANCE THEORY (METODA MOMENTOW W TEORII ELEKTRONOWEGO REZONANSU PARAMAGNETYCZNEGO),

Abstract

A review has been made of the mathematical and physical principles of the method of moments of analysis of the EPR absorption line shape and the range of its application and its usefulness. The buildup mechanism of the definite width of the EPR absorption line is discussed, and basic information on the spin system of a paramagnetic crystal in the shape of this line is given. Definitions are provided of some selected notions from the probability theory closely connected with the method of moments. Also, an exact description of the basic mathematical ideas involved in this method is given. The physical formulas giving the moments of the absorption line have been derived, and use has been made of the theories of other authors. The analysis based on various papers leads to the conclusion that the method of moments, despite its many faults, is still the simplest, albeit an approximate method of analysis of the EPR absorption line shape.
