ON-SITE DIGITAL SAMPLING SYSTEM.

Abstract

An investigation was made into the feasibility of recording sonar field-test data initially in the digital format required for computer analysis during the test exercise to obviate use of computer time for the analog to digital conversion of the test information. The result showed that the extreme channel-bandwidth requirements of some of the sonar groups could not be met by recording systems already in use by other laboratories and only marginally by the most advanced commercial equipments now under development. A recommendation was made to continue recording in analog form and to provide an analog to digital conversion unit in the laboratory separate from the computer. (Author)
