A QUICK METHOD OF LABELING PROTEINS WITH FLUORESCEIN ISOTHYOCYANATE BY EMPLOYING POWDERED 'SEPHADEX G25,'

Abstract

The use of powdered Sephadex G25 saves a great deal of time and work and eliminates both the removal of excess color by column chromatography and the concentration of the eluate. The more and more frequent use of labelled antibodies in immunochemical investigations has induced a search for a simple and relatively rapid working method. It consists in employing powdered Sephadex which acts as water absorbent and so concentrates the final product by simultaneously eliminating any excess stain. The advantage of this labelling method for proteins is speed and simplicity. A labelled and concentrated product is obtained within 30 minutes and dialysis and column-chromatographic separation requiring considerable time are eliminated. (Author)
