FLUORESCENT-SERIOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF A PATHOGENIC FUNGUS (SPOROTRICHUM SCHENCKII),

Abstract

Rabbits were immunized with the mold phase Sporotrichum schenkii, and the immune globulin is coupled to fluorescin isocyanate by the Coons method. The single cells of this fungus could be specifically colored with marked antibody solutions, both in culture smears and in frozen cross sections and smear samples of experimentally infected mice. Even its degeneration products in the tissue still gave an antigen-antibody reaction, and in the coloration of numerous other species of fungus no cross reactions with Sporotrichum schenkii were found. The use of this fluorescent coloring method for the diagnosis of Sporotrichosis is suggested. (Author)
