TYPHUS FEVER IN PERSONS WHO HAVE BEEN IMMUNIZED,

Abstract

The assumption of the task of producing typhus fever vaccine by Weigl's method by the Supreme Command of the Army is explained; the problem of making a practical evaluation of immunizations is briefly illuminated. There follows a discussion of several questions of general interest in the area of typhus fever, supported by laboratory experiments and experiments carried out with laboratory personnel as subjects. The value of immunization with Weigl vaccine is objectively indicated. In particular, 15 cases of laboratory infection with typhus fever are related in detail and critically evaluated, whereby the relationship between the manner of infection, the clinical progression of illness and the effectiveness of immunizations is explained. In addition, a comparison of the OX19 Agglutination process by Weigl and Felix and the rickettsia agglutination method of Weigl, using selected cases is presented and the relationship of these serological reactions to typhus fever immunity is explored.
