ACTIVATION OF SIGMA-PROTOTOXIN OF TYPE D CL. PERFRINGENS WITH PROTEINASES OF A AND D TYPES,

Abstract

The goal of this work was to study the possibility of activating sigma -prototoxin of D-type Cl. perffringens by proteinases of Cl. perfringens of the A and D types. A necessary condition in performing such a study is obtaining each of the ingredients of the sample without any admixture of another ingredient. There have been numerous studies on the purification of sigma -prototoxin of the D-type Cl. perfringens. At the present time, this prototoxin has been obtained in the form of a preparation homogeneous, immunologically, during studies in an ultracentrifuge (Habeeb, 1963), and by some researchers in the form of crystals (Verwoerd, 1960; Thomson, 1962, 1963). However, studies by the method of electrophoresis in starch and acrylamide gels revealed its heterogeneity. (Author)
