ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIVE MOTION OF THE PEM MOD-IV TETHERED CANISTER AND THE ATLAS BOOSTER.

Abstract

A computer program was developed to study the relative motion of an Atlas booster and the tethered PEM Mod-IV canister. The problem is of interest both to insure satisfactory tether brake operation and to avoid Atlas-canister collision. The computer program was written with variable input so that pre-flight analyses could be performed for a number of flights. The predictions of the program have resulted in altered qualification test procedures and altered flight configurations. A program user's guide was constructed to enable operation of the program by other agencies. (Author)
