The following aspects of the fluorescent antibody technique in virology are discussed: The optical system -- microscope, light source and filters; Labelling procedure -- labelling globulin with fluorescein isothiocyanate; Direct and indirect staining methods; Staining of complement; and The identification and localization of virus.
