DEVELOPMENT OF THE ACTUATOR, DELAY WOX-27A,

Abstract

A hermetically sealed, electrically initiated 1-second delay actuator has been developed for use in the Depth Charge WOX-3. The actuator initiates a propellant capsule which operates a parachute release mechanism. The actuator is 1.030 inches long and 0.305 inch in diameter. It has a bridge resistance between 2.4 and 4.4 ohms and a calculated 0.99 probability of firing from an energy of 25,500 ergs by capacitor discharge at 40 volts. The actuator meets the standard Navy environmental and surveillance tests for similar material. (Author)
