CONVECTIVE PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS.

Abstract

Areas of convective precipitation were delineated and averaged convective precipitation amounts determined within these areas. A statistical, step-wise, screening, linear regression procedure was used to correlate certain large scale parameters with the convective precipitation amounts. Of the parameters considered in the two cases investigated, the best predictor of convective precipitation was either the terrain-induced vertical motion at the top of the boundary layer, or the product of the latter and the specific humidity at the same level.
