SHOCK PRESSURES RESULTING FROM IMPACT BETWEEN A SOLID AND A LIQUID,

Abstract

Impact pressures of high intensity and of short duration known as shock pressures may occur during breaking of waves on coastal structures, slamming of ships, landing of seaplanes, and water entry of naval projectiles. An examination of the literature on pressures resulting from impact between a solid and a liquid reveals some theoretical investigations of the subject. (Author)
