NEW KNOWLEDGE ON THE FUNDAMENTAL LIMITATIONS TO OPERATION OF FIELD-EFFECT TRANSISTORS,

Abstract

The theory for the field-effect transistor was originally defined by Shockley and was extended by Dacey and Ross. This theory is generally satisfactory in most respects, but it was found not to explain a second mode of operation described by Evans and Pullen. It is the purpose of this paper to establish the modifications required to explain the recently reported alternate mode of operation and to examine the implications of the new knowledge in solid-state electronics.
