SUPPLEMENTARY ANALYSIS OF FIRE-SERVICE CAPABILITIES FOR DAMAGE CONTROL AND RESCUE.

Abstract

This study examines damage to fire departments in the Five-City Study as a result of the Five-City Study nuclear attack. Problem areas investigated included, first, a raw measure of remaining fire-service capabilities in terms of quantity, location, and damage level to personnel and resources and, second, consideration of what accomplishments the remaining forces might be capable of. The research reported accomplished the following: (1) determination of the disposition of personnel and equipment for the fire departments of the five cities and estimation of the degradation of forces in San Jose; and (2) studies of specific cases in the San Jose central business district to give an indication of the accomplishments possible by fire services after nuclear attack. A follow-on study is recommended to complete the damage estimation for the Five-City Study. (Author)
