L-BAND TETRODES.

Abstract

A new planar tube geometry has been developed wherein the usual screen grid electrode is omitted. The normal tetrode advantages of low output capacitance, high gain, and high plate efficiency are achieved by use of a grid pattern positioned on the surface of the cathode that serves to focus the electron current through the openings of the control grid. An L-67D tube of this type, operating in a circuit simplified by the omission of the screen grid contact and its associated power supply, provided a CW power output of 750 watts that was flat within 1 db over a band from 1205 to 1422 MHz with a gain of 12.8 db and an efficiency of 14.2%.
