SOUND VELOCITY CROSS SECTIONS OF THE WORLD'S OCEANS. PART I. EASTERN NORTH PACIFIC.

Abstract

Twelve west-to-east and twelve south-to-north vertical sections of sound velocity are presented. They are based on data located in 5-degree zones of latitude and longitude from 0 to 60 deg N. and 120 to 180 deg W. The sections show sound velocity gradients, location of deep sound channel, and bottom velocity. Water mass boundaries from temperature-salinity considerations were found to coincide fairly well with sound velocity regimes. (Author)
