INTEGRATED ENGINEERING AND SERVICE TEST OF AIR CONDITIONERS, HORIZONTAL, COMPACT 9000 BTU/HR, 60 AND 400 CYCLE.

Abstract

This report summarizes the integrated engineering and service test of 9000 Btu/hr compact horizontal air conditioners. The purpose of the test was to determine conformance of the test items to required physical, performance, and maintenance characteristics. The test was conducted at Aberdeen Proving Ground from 16 October 1967 to 17 May 1968. The results showed that failures of both the temperature control thermostat and bonding of the foam insulating material resulted from exposure to humidity, the evaporator noise levels were excessive, the draft technical manual (DTM 5-4120-239-14) requires revision, and improvement in the areas of maintainability and human engineering were needed. It was concluded that each model air conditioner met the test objectives with the exceptions noted. It was recommended that the deficiencies and shortcomings revealed in this test be corrected.
