DISPERSION STRENGTHENED METALS STRUCTURAL MECHANICAL FASTENER EVALUATION.

Abstract

A survey was conducted of all available dispersion strengthened metals to select candidate materials for potential use in structural fasteners. Screening tests were conducted and DuPont Ni-20Cr-2.5ThO2 (TD NiCr) and DuPont Co-18Cr-20Ni-2.5ThO2 (TD Co-Ni Cr) were selected for further study. An extensive test program was run on fasteners involving tensile, shear, stress-rupture, relaxation, fatigue, oxidation, stress-corrosion, and torque-tension tests at temperatures from -320F to 200F. Tensile and fatigue tests of riveted joints were also conducted. (Author)
