HIGH PERFORMANCE FUEL CELL.

Abstract

The objective of this contract is to develop the technology required for a high performance H2-O2 fuel cell system for future Air Force space vehicle applications. During this reporting period, progress was made on the development of a lightweight, internal liquid-cooled fuel cell stack. Design, fabrication, test, and evaluation of two 28-volt stacks, and 20 small stacks of various designs were completed. One 28-volt unit of intermediate weight magnesium-plate design, passed shock, vibration and acceleration tests and was operated for over 900 hours. The other 28-volt unit, of non-metallic design, was operated for a total of 1200 hours. A comprehensive fuel cell system design has also been evolved. (Author)
