A SUBOPTIMAL FEEDBACK CONTROL FOR A NONLINEAR PLANT.

Abstract

A suboptimal control law for the class of optimization problems consisting of a nonlinear plant and a quadratic cost functional is developed. The plant is modeled by a linear, time-varying plant and a Taylor's series representation is developed for the feedback gain matrix based upon the assumption that this matrix is a function of both state and time. The resultant control law is of feedback form and is nonlinear in state. It is obtained without using iterative techniques or the true optimal solution. Two examples are given to show that the method compares favorably with previous results. (Author)
