MAGNITOGORSK ARMOR PLATE,

Abstract

This is a sketch of how the metallurgists at the Magnitogorsk (Magnitka) steel factory in the Soviet Union fulfilled the Soviet Union's need for armor plate during World War II. Since no mills for rolling armor plate existed in Magnitka before the war, engineers developed a duplex process for rolling, which saved the disassembling of a large factory in the South and a later reassembling of it in Magnitogorsk. For their ingenuity of accomplishing a feat never before attempted, these engineers received numerous awards and decorations from the State. (Author)
