NOTES ON PLASMA PHYSICS AT THE LABORATORI GAS IONIZZATI (ASSOCIAZIONE EURATOM-CNEN), FRASCATI ROMA.

Abstract

This report gives an account of a visit to the Laboratori Gas Ionizzati located just outside the picturesque village of Frascati, some 20 km from the center of Rome. Its beginnings date from 1958 when a small group of researchers under Dr. Bruno Brunelli, who had started a plasma physics laboratory at the University of Rome, was called upon by the Comitato Nazionale Energia Nucleare (CNEN) to form the core of the new laboratory, which today has more than one hundred qualified researchers. This report gives an account of the history and structure of the organization, as well as a description of the research program pertaining to basic plasma physics, theoretical and experimental. The actual installations visited are described, and a list of recent publications is appended. (Author)
