SOMETHING ABOUT THE SYMBIONTS OF MOSQUITOES

Abstract

Mosquitoes which have just sucked blood have a diluted abdomen which can be observed in a sagittal cut. The zones of the intestines are more altered than others where the red blood cells have hemolyzed. In these zones of hemolysis, a profusion of bacillary bacteria were noted on occasion, lumped together and also forming chains. The erythrocytes situated in the vicinity of the groups of bacteria were hemolyzed, while leucocytes were unaltered. It is concluded that the bacteria are there to cause hemolysis.
