CLINICAL PHYSIOLOGY IN SWEDEN. PART V. ROYAL UNIVERSITY OF UMEA.
Abstract
Previous reports in this series presented aspects of the organization and mission of clinical physiology and surveyed activities at the Departments of Clinical Physiology at Uppsala, Linkoping, and Stockholm. This report, Part V in the series, reviews certain features of the Department of Clinical Physiology, Lasarettet, Royal University of Umea, Sweden. Investigations include studies on vasoregulatory astenia, work physiology, clinical pharmacology of ganglionic and beta-adrenergic blockade, and on catecholamine (plasma levels and urinary excretion) levels in various physiologic and pathophysiologic circumstances. Therapy of angina pectoris with beta-adrenergic blockade is assessed at Umea. Studies of validity, reliability, and accuracy of various instruments and methods for determining blood gas tensions are well advanced. A study following the time course of R-L shunt valves from one hour to one week in normal, newborn infants is summarized.
