A STUDY OF BARNACLE GROWTH, EXPERIMENTING WITH VARIOUS TYPES OF SHEATHING MATERIAL.

Abstract

Study of the seasonal changes in the population of barnacles in the vicinity of Tambon Angsila, Changwat Chonburi was conducted between December 30, 1961 and December 29, 1962. In this experiment, 7 inch x 4 inch plates made of teak wood, steel, teak wood shielded with zinc alloy and teak wood shielded with brass were used for barnacle settling. Half of each plate of the first three types of material was painted with antifouling paint. Two plates of each type of material were hung on an electric wire 1.50 meters apart, allowing the upper plate to be approximately at water surface. The set of experimental plates was replaced every month by a new one and the old one was taken to the laboratory for analysis. (Author)
