THE REFLECTIVITY OF THE TOP LAYER IN THE NAPLES AND AJACCIO ABYSSAL PLAINS.

Abstract

The influence of the acoustic reflectivity from the top layer of the ocean floor in the Naples and Ajaccio abyssal plains of the Mediterranean has been investigated. On the basis of peak amplitudes the reflection losses have been measured for angles of incidence from 0 to 83 degrees. Acoustic parameters obtained from a large number of cores from the areas have been used to compute theoretical loss curves, which agree well with the measured ones. (Author)
