PARAMETRIC AMPLIFIERS FOR ELECTRONICALLY STEERABLE RADAR SYSTEMS.

Abstract

Two integrated S-band parametric amplifiers were fabricated and tested. Each amplifier consists of two stages of parametric amplification separated by a single stage of isolation. Measured results on the two amplifiers exhibited the repeatability typical of integrated circuit realizations. A center-band power gain of 20 db and a half-power bandwidth of 600 MHz (3.2 to 3.8 GHz) was demonstrated by each unit. The design objectives on this program were essentially satisfied by low passband noise temperature, low levels of pass-band phase and gain ripple, a high degree of gain and phase stability, a significant band of phase linearity, and a wide band of gain and phase tracking. The first step toward the realization of the ultimate in an integrated, miniature, low cost, high-performance, high reproducibility parametric amplifier system was successfully completed. (Author)
