A SURVEY OF AIRCRAFT VISUAL APPROACH SLOPE INDICATORS.
Abstract
This report summarizes descriptions and evaluations of 18 visual approach slope indicators reported in the literature since 1959. Each provides the pilot with visual information, which, when properly interpreted, directs him along a prescribed glidescope to the landing area. Eleven of the indicators were designed for use aboard aircraft carriers, four for use in bare-base operations, and three for use at large complex airfields. A summary which includes the salient advantages and disadvantages of the aids is included. Adoption of a standardized objective evaluation technique is recommended. (Author)
